洋甘菊含有多種酚類化合物，主要有類黃酮芹菜素(flavonoids apigenin)、槲黃素(quercetin)、萬壽菊素(patuletin)、木犀草素(luteolin)和醣(glucosides)，從洋甘菊提煉出來的精油主要含有類沒藥醇(α-bisabolol terpenoids)及其氧化物和天藍烴(azulenes)，洋甘菊具有中度抗氧化、抗菌能力，雛菊科植物過敏的人可能會對洋甘菊產生敏感反應. 藉由內皮素-1(ET-1)活性，能防止黑斑、雀斑，衛生署規定濃度限量為 0.5％.
